Scanner troubleshooting tips

To clear an old account to allow the software to use a new account

  1. Go to Start
  2. Type “Clear”
  3. Click Clear Scanner Client Settings
  4. Click clear the configuration from this computer
  5. Any trials that were attempted to be uploaded using the old account will be lost and need to be rescanned in

If too many trials scanned in error occurs:

  1. Scan in 4-5 different brands of barcodes and connect the scanner directly in. If it’s not charged, bring the trials to the computer and do it there. (We say different brands to rule out any barcode issues which we also have on the website.)
  2. Attach the Scanner and pull up the ABB Scanner Client (Black Box)
  3. If it beeps after a minute or so you can tell that it is recognizing it is plugged in. If it begins to beep sequentially several times in a row, it has found barcodes and will be bringing up Internet explorer – WAIT until page fully loads….then you can click add to shopping cart using the button at the top right. (Depending on the trials scanned in this may take several minutes)
  4. After you click add to shopping cart - You might not see the page loading or moving items – but it is. If the scanner is emptied on the first, try you will see the Shopping Cart page with any trials backed up plus the ones you scanned. If it needs, you to REPEAT steps 1 to 4 again – it will display a 500 error eventually or just time out if there are too many trials. Repeat steps 1-4 and possibly also reset scanner in between doing so.
  5. If they are approaching 400+ trials clear the cart under my cart …if the trials go over 500, they can’t checkout or a helpdesk ticket will be needed to even view that page. You will need to clear the cart.
    1. Then you can test it by closing the website and the ABB Concise Scanner Client and scanning about 3 different brands of trials – If ONLY those 3 show up – it is fixed, and the scanner is now empty. If more show trials show up…then they are still inside scanner. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you see them in the cart.

To reset the scanner – (Does not clear out all the trials if hundreds backed up)

  1. Hold down the small and large button after for about 30 seconds until you hear a long beep (It sounds different than when you scan items- it is a longer beep)
  2. If it does not beep when they scan it is simply muted or needs to charge. For this, you hold down the bigger button for about 15 seconds until it beeps.
  3. If nothing beeps when black box is open
  4. Driver issue/ usb issue. Check Opticon scanner drivers are installed or use a new usb slot.
  5. If you are still having issues, ensure Windows is up to date on required updates.
